What makes a great school?

In short—you make Sunalta a great school!

Sunalta School Think-A-Thon

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2025

Dear Parents

The Sunalta School Council and Society is holding a Think-A-Thon to help raise funds. It is a great way for students to contribute to their school fundraising through academic efforts.

What is a Think-A-Thon?

Sunalta has hosted this event for many years, and it has been very well received by students and parents. Students collect pledges to support their effort in taking a quiz which is prepared by their teachers. This year, students in classes K-3 will take the quiz with their buddies and classes 4-6 on their own. The quiz will be in a digital format to make it a bit more fun! Each class will receive one educational game as well as a food treat after the Think-A-Thon event for their effort.

Where do the funds go?

In 2023 council raised $9000 which benefit all students and was used to supplement:

o Learning and classroom resources,

o Physical education equipment,

o Music instruments and equipment,

o School technology.

This year funds will be used to supplement:

o Art Room supplies and organizational materials,

o Learning and classroom resources,

Fundraising

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

Teacher Appreciation

Over the course of its 100 year history, Sunalta School has served students from kindergarten to grade 9. Presently, the school houses a regular kindergarten to Grade 6 program.

We are also home to Scarboro Preschool with Programs for 3 and 4 year olds. https://www.instagram.com/scarboropreschool/

Since 1910, Sunalta School has maintained a proud tradition of excellence in public education. As the designated school for the communities of Scarboro and Sunalta, the school, in addition, serves a number of students from around the city who have chosen Sunalta as their school. We are very proud of our school, its history and continuing vitality.
